If you follow us on instagram you would have seen we received some awesome products from LA Girl Cosmetics South Africa. Three LA Girl Flat Velvet Matte lipsticks were part of this press drop.
Today I will just be doing a quick review on the products and an arm swatch for you guys.
These lippies are available for only R49.95 at Dischem so it’s nice and budget friendly.
On the group, majority of us share a pet peeve and that is people testing actual stock, so when we go to buy,the products are already used! Well thankfully this is something you don’t have to worry about with the LA Girl flat velvet matte lipstick as it comes safely wrapped in plastic to keep it sanitary. The packaging looks sleek in black with gold letters.
At the bottom of the lid there is a little twist off jar that I initially thought was an additional part of the lipstick for a quick top up, but I was wrong 😉
I read quite a bit of post about this lippie and none of them mentioned that they knew 100% what this little jar was meant to be or used for. In keeping with our BSI (Beauty Swop Investigations, lol) legacy, I emailed LA Girl to get some more info to share with you guys our awesome members.
So here is what it really is: It’s a colour swatch included to showcase the lipstick shade. It is not intended for use on the face. So beauties please don’t use this as a gloss. LA Girl Cosmetics SA contacted LA Girl USA and they got a response from them indicating that in the future batches of the lipstick, the colour at the bottom will be a firmer seal so that a customer can’t access the colour.
This in itself will keep me supporting LA Girl cosmetics for years to come. A company that is willing to listen to the consumer and change certain aspects of their products is definitely a company with high ethics (just like BSS) and we are happy to spread awareness of such an amazing brand. P.S We are the first people to be releasing this information in SA.
Below is an arm swatch of the 3 colours I received. They are available in 26 different shades so I am more than sure you will be able to get a shade to suit you.
I have only had the opportunity to wear hush this week and I was pleasantly surprised. It is a perfect nude for me, I like it even more than I do my velvet teddy. It is extremely light on the lips and for a lippie that has a matte finish it isn’t drying at all. It is quite pigmented but goes on a bit patchy, so I would definitely recommend that you apply at least 2 coats to get a nice full lip of colour.
A week or so ago our member Sam Ellenberger explained to us exactly what a nude lipstick should be ,1 to 2 shades darker than your skin. Now I myself used to think that a nude lipstick should match your skin but once I put on this LA Girl Flat Velvet lippie I immediately knew what she was talking about.
The La Girl Flat Velvet lipstick has a bit of a crayon-like smell in the tube but the smell doesn’t linger after application. It is a 3g lipstick which for the price is the generally quantity lippies come in (wet n wild megalast is 3.3g).
They last on the lips for quite a while – approximately 4 hours even when eating, drinking etc.
Overall The LA Girl Flat Velvet gets a thumbs up from us here at BSS HQ. It’s affordable, comfortable to wear and the colours are on point. It could possibly have had a teenie bit more product over it’s competitors. You have to apply at least 2 coats to get it to the proper opacity or color intensity you see in the swatch top above.
Peace and love
